Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic SiteThe Vanderbilt Estate in Hyde Park, New York is perhaps the best, most intact example of the types of estates constructed by wealthy industrialists in the 19th century. The fully-furnished, 54-room mansion is placed in a wondrous landscape with breathtaking views of the Hudson River and distant Catskill Mountains. It offers a glimpse into a past world known by only an elite few.

Exhibits:

The furnished home of Frederick Vanderbilt; Visitor Center with exhibits and bookstore. The grounds feature breathtaking views of the Hudson River and distant Catskill Mountains. The Formal Gardens, once abandoned, have been restored.

Programs/Activities:

Regularly scheduled guided tours of Vanderbilt Mansion are presented by rangers on a regular basis. Programs vary, and include themes dealing with the lifestyle of the Vanderbilts and their contemporaries, industrial expansion, turn-of-the-century technology, and landscape architecture.

Getting There:
Vanderbilt Mansion is in the Hudson River Valley in Dutchess County, New York. The Mansion is on Route 9 in Hyde Park, about 90 miles north of New York City and 70 miles south of Albany.
