Big Brutus

Big BrutusLocated near West Mineral, KS in the southeast corner in the state. The second largest electric shovel in the world standing 16 stories tall and weighing 11 million pounds. In 1985, Big Brutus was dedicated as a Museum and Memorial dedicated to the rich coal mining history in southeast Kansas. There are exhibits, displays and photographs in both the visitors center and Big Brutus. Open year round.

Monument Rocks

Monument RocksLocated in Western Kansas between Oakley and Scott City. Also called Chalk Pyramids. Located on private land but open to the public. It is a series of large chalk formations that are rich in fossils. They reach 70 feet tall and have buttes and arches. Has been designated as a National Natural Landmark.
